LO1 - Treatmeant - Twisted

TREATMENT
TWISTED-WILDFIRE PRODUCTIONS-MAY 2016

THE BRIEF
We have been asked to produce an original short film in any genre lasting between 5-15 minutes. The genre of my short film will be a drama. This short film discovers the effects of domestic abuse and the people it happens to.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience for Twisted is both genders between the ages of 18 and 40. The reason for it being targeted to both genders as it shows that both genders can be domestically abused. Its rated 18 as it is not appropriate for a younger audience. It can apply to people over 40, but we mainly want to aim it at young adults audience, as that is who is going to be included in the film. We are aiming the film at all ethnicities as domestic abuse can happen to anyone. It is aimed at BC1C2 as the film will be aimed at the middle class as they are able to access the internet and will be able to watch it online

SEGMENT SYNOPSIS AND HOW IT RELATES TO THE BRIEF
. A woman is being abused by her boyfriend, it shows you what she has to deal with in everyday life, and half way through the film it rewinds and the man is the one being abused and how he deals with everyday life, showing it can happen to both genders. This film relates to the brief, as it is a drama, which looks at domestic abuse.

CONTINGENCIES
A contingency idea for the short film is a crime drama, a girl’s friend has been murdered, she doesn’t feel like the police are doing enough so she starts investigating the case herself.

'Plastic'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpJFE8UcFcU

Genre: Drama

Camerawork: throughout this short film there camera work varies, from extreme close ups, where she is manipulating parts of her face, to mid shots and over the shoulder shots, when talking to her date this show a range of techniques and angles which therefore fit the 'feel' of the film which is quite un-nerving and strange story line

Narrative: there narrative is about a young woman who is preparing to go on a date but who is not happy with her image so there fore is able to manipulate herself to an idea which she thinks all men want, but yet when she comes to meeting her man he likes her just as she is

Characterisation: though this film you don't find out much about the main character, just that she isn't comfortable with herself and wants to be changed, therefore alters herself throughout the film to fit a idea she thinks her date would like better than herself, but in the end her date really does like herself which tells a story not to change for anyone else

Script: there is not much speech in the script as the film focus' on the changing on the main character, the only areas of speech are where she is on the phone to her date, and when she finally meets him

Editing: the editing though this film is very poor and not as realistic as it needs to be, this is becauase when the woman is manipulating herself you can notice differences between whats real and what isn't

production values: this film has low production values because of the low standard of editing and costumes, where the character is changing its not realistic in anyway, and the areas which are changed don't keep the same quality as the rest of the short film.

'BOY'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwV7ENOTeek

'BOY'

Genre: Drama

Camerawork: first off there is close ups where of where the girl is looking at the clothing she would like to have, and then the mother is shown in a full length shot of the clothing she wants her daughter to wear.

Narrative: the narrative behind this is which of a teenage girl trying to find herself, understanding she isn't comfortable  in her own body, but we discover throughout her mother wont let her make the changes she wants to make to be happy, which leads to arguments and discussions within her family

Characterisation: the main character, changes and developes throughout the short film as we find out more and more about her situation and how she clashes with her mother, this is because the girls is very passionate about her needs and what she wants to do whereas her mother fully disagrees

Script:

Editing: throughout this film it includes lots of jump cuts between each shot and many insert shots, and also to see where segments have been removed and changed to apply with the correct genre

production values: the production values within this film are quite high as there are many costume and locations changes and the continuity is good and small mistakes when re filming parts of scenes is not noticeable

'About a Girl'

'About a girl', Brian Percival, 2001.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV1_TXm0XHs

Genre: Drama

Camerawork: the shots throughout the film are all portrait close ups with lots of mid shots as the female actor is talking throughout about different subjects, this is as she is narrating all the way through and happens in most scenes. As well there is a large amount of panning when following speech. jump cuts are used continuously throughout which makes the scenes a lot more fast pace

Narrative: the narrative is a monologue of  young girl from Manchester which talks about her life with her friends, being in a band, not being close to her father which effects her life greatly. The most prominent scene is where she disposes of the baby in the canal which is a big shock to viewers.

Characterisation: this character develops throughout with mystery as it gets harder to understand the narrative behind the short film as there is a twist in the end where she gets rid of the baby into the river in an emotional final scene

Script: it is a monologue not a script because there is only one speaker throughout, except from the backgrounds noises of her friends singing.

Editing: throughout this film it includes lots of jump cuts between each shot, and also there is many insert shots throughout which poses a faster pace to the film, it builds up all the way throughout in anticipation for the ending.

production values: the production values throughout are low as when the young girl is walking the shot is not smooth, the person is filming whilst walking which gives the shot a bumpy effect, which could of been avoided with better filming equipment.
